Its something that most people pay attention to when looking at a new vehicle- the engine or how much power it makes. I'll admit- when I'm looking for a new car or looking at what people have made their cars into, one of the first questions I ask is how powerful it is. Perhaps its curiosity to know who can do the most with their engines.

A few years back, I happened to read about the Wartsila-Sulzer and was amazed. Sure there are some big engines in construction machinery, jets, and other monster or fast machines, but how about one of the most efficient internal combustion engines that also happens to make among the most power available on the market today?

Let's not be mistaken, we're not really comparing apples to apples...

"They are already not making cars as well as they know how; so why change? "

Because gas is too cheap, but that will change. Note that the Wartsila is a diesel.

the fact is that we have all this technology sitting in D3's drawers. But, no one bothers pulling it out -- because it hasn't paid off so far.

This is a "toy" but its principles could possibly be used in car engines.

it may be efficient, but can it be scaled down to be even more "sippy" and not "guzzling"?

What makes it efficient that an auto engine? Is it the low RPM's? Find out and make the auto engine copy it.

One can dream, right? But for the 99% or more of us who can't afford something like this, lets come down to reality.

There is technology out there that can improve our current gas powered cars performance. The question is why is it not in production?

It would be nice if it was possible to scale this down for a car, but I doubt it's possible without turning it into a regular diesel engine.

While it's a bit bigger than a Chrysler Hemi, It IS roughly twice the energy efficiency of any gasoline engine. Problem with that is, it's diesel, which IS more efficient than a gasoline engine. If only they could make a diesel engine that would fit in a car or truck! OOPS! They do? Never mind....

"What is the MPG rating"

It runs a ship (like a cruise ship, super-tanker or super-freighter). They measure fuel consumption in TONS per hour, NOT mpg.

Just HOW many miles would YOU expect a ship that large to go on a single gallon???
(about 0.00001 miles — or about 6 inches... if already moving)

Usually where there is power, there's usually a high automobile gas bill, no thanks, my Accord is sufficient enough power for me.
