An officer traveling at a high rate of speed was lucky and blessed to wind up with relatively minor injuries- a few bones broken (or shattered- it seems would be more logical given the accident). The officer was going to provide backup to another officer involved in a foot pursuit of a burglary suspect when he lost control on the wet pavement and wrapped his car around a tree.

The morning was busy Sunday for officers in Santa Maria as a police chase took place earlier that morning, resulting in a stolen car crashing into a first grade classroom.

Had the officer been traveling a bit faster, the story could have a much worse outcome. As the picture above indicates, the tree nearly severed the car in half. The only remaining...

Was it really worth pushing the envelope? He and others could all have been killed. What terrible waste.

That is what they use the Air 1 helicopter for in Vancouver - They have a 95% arrest rate or something crazy like that. The police only hold on long enough for the helicopter to identify the car.

This is what happens when you run speed traps. Police departments just shouldn't do it. Disgusting. What a waste of municipal resources.

Wet pavement, Hot pursuits. I thought they made those against policy anymore. They were to back off and try follow at safe distance and intercept by coordinating resources. Two for two on these list..

Resistible force meets much stronger immovable object. The latter wins almost all of the time.

Why must we assume that Police Officers are good drivers? Some certainly may be, but they are as susceptible to distractions as we are, and worse, they have more distractions AND they drive much faster than we do, even to the donut shop...

And who is paying for all that damage?
He thought the price of gas has really gone down so he stepped on the gas to get more mileage credit?
He needs to go to driving school for a whole year to get credit.

Why such irresponsible speeds in such poor weather conditions? The offense and pursuit do not justify it.
