Good earnings reports from several companies points to consumers willing to spend. Consumers willing to spend points towards increased gasoline demand as those consumers get out to spend and go on trips or vacations. The summer heat points to above average tropical activity. A storm has just developed into tropical depression #3. Tropical depression #3 will not only cause BP to shut spill operations, but will cause other rigs to evacuate, forcing a shut down of some production.

All of these situations points toward higher gasoline prices. As unlikely as it is, all of these events have started at around the same time, so oil prices can virtually only move higher. Suddenly traders are focusing on the upbeat earnings reports thinking...

""EVERY THING"" IS NOT POINTING TO HIGHER GASOLINE PRICES. Smile; be happy; things could be much worse.

the US economy (and global economy) is down and Pig Oil and Pig Banks just kick 'em in the teeth.

OPEC doesn't have to do anything to do "US" in...

diesel at one station jumped from 2.89 to 3.15 yesterday. Absolutely NO reason for that one. Other than gouging.

Who are you kidding. Everything points to higher gas prices. I have four references. 1. Speculators. 2. Opec. 3. Big oil. 4. The present administration who cancels leases already granted and paid for and puts a stupid moratorium on the gulf to further impair U.S oil production so that we may buy more from foreign suppliers. They must really be trying to make the country fail. I truly hope that the "cap and trade (tax) continues to be held up.

"Good earnings reports from several companies points to consumers willing to spend...."

.

On the contrary.

No. Everything I've heard, has attributed recent profit earnings due to cost-cutting, not an increase in sales. And as a matter of fact, the reports even went so far as to address the fact that it was not due to increased sales, and how the economy cannot sustain increasing earning through cost-cutting efforts.

THE primary source for the increase in profits was due to cost-cutting benefits almost entirely derived from laying-off millions of people (i.e. cut labor costs, put more work on existing labor force, maintain previous sales levels).

So. There has been no increase in consumer spending, and most indications are that Americans have begun cutting spending again. sometime in mid-May.

STOP speculating and READ the news!

Make sure the news is bad enough to keep gas prices UP at the pump! Whatever the news maybe: storms, hurricanes, weather depressions, fuel inventories, oil futures, speculation, DOE reports, rouge oil companies, major oil leaks that go on for more than a week, the season of the year, wild spending by Obie, government inaction, acne, shaving, premature exxxulation or your first divorce.

... That's really funny, raising gas prices before and IF the storm arrives. ...

... I guess it's the Speculators getting richer. ...

... When will the politicians decide to regulate the Speculators??? ...

... November 3rd, 2010. The Day after all the "care less" legislators are VOTED OUT of their Office. ...

Should this "depression" develop and target the spill area, it will most certainly give the engineers an answer to how well the spill prevention system holds up and just how the oil moves and mixes while the seas are rough. Lets hope we learn from this storm (if it strikes the area) and then work with the aftermath for study. Gas prices are not that critical as what happens out there.

This is the stuff that fuels speculation by the untrained and usually results in a price increase followed by a sudden drop as the untrained speculator losses everything
