ZZZoop, read the link from the OP:
"Early indications pointed to pilot error in heavy fog as a factor in the crash, officials said."

An AP story on MSNBC is reporting that the pilot had missed four approaches and was conducting a fifth at the time the accident occurred. That screams "pilot error," yet the media continues to imply that the "aging" Tu-154 is the chief suspect.
Remember that in 1996, USAF pilots crashed a perfectly good B-737 (T-43) in Dubrovnik killing the Secretary of Commerce and others.

I started a thread on the "World Politics" board since the U. S. is not involved--at least not directly!

Truly devastating. The Polish people have been through so much. Now this.

How ironic. A trip to remember the massacre at Katyn forest of thousands of Polish officers, and many of top political and military people killed in this crash. Seems as a former Polish president said, the place is cursed.

I can't even imagine the impact that this is going to have on their government. Maybe they should have follwed what our government does and not allow their top officials to all travel in one vehicle.
