Turned out in was just the fuel filter, but I had no cell phone reception so I was stuck till a Tennessee state trooper drove up and saw me and called for a tow truck.

My Honda Accord: totaled. His F-150: spotless. I'm so glad my insurance company took good care of me even though I was "at fault"...and I'm also lucky that the guy I rear-ended didn't get pissed off or try to screw me over with insurance claims.

I believe the bearing went bad but when I got stopped, it was all gone so had to trailer it back home the next day. Found out that this is a problem in ford rangers.

That was years ago. So far, I've been lucky in that I've not had a flat spare tire; I've never needed help changing a tire so that wouldn't strand me for long.

It made a loud bang noise which I thought was a funny non alarming sound. I drove on it (route 95 for over a mile driving 65 mph from Maine to Boston, when I realized I should pull over. I thought that my noise came from the ungraded road. After stopping, I did think that this poor road had caused the tire to blow. AAA came to my rescue. After changing the tire, we both got back into our vehicles, and guess what? The car wouldn't start. I hailed down the AAA truck again as he tried passing me. I had left my lights on in error for the entire time and forgot to shut them off in the excitement. I also had a very full trunk that had to be emptied to get to the spare. Thank God I had a working cell phone and that I was carrying my AAA card and that they came along quickly! [Edited by: rohiah10 at 11/20/2010 1:24:19 PM EST]

I had to make my way uptown with hundreds of other panicked people. The U.S. Army eventually flew me out from midtown to safety in a helicopter.
