Leaks Spills Up To 2,000 Tons Of Oil

Huffington Post -- MOSCOW (AP) — Up to 2,000 tons of oil have spilled from a major field in northern Russia after workers struggled to contain the leak for two days, officials said.

Vladimir Bezumov, chief of the Russian Environmental Agency in the area, said the weekend spill could have produced between 800 and 2,000 tons and contaminated at least 8,000 square meters (86,100 square. feet) of land. Obama is going to have to get the EPA after the Ruskies immediately, if not sooner! This is an outrage!

I don't think our strict regulations on steel quality and spills apply over there in Russia. Sorry REHORSEHAY. Seeing some of the pictures of oil patches in Russia makes me wonder if this spill is even noticable.

Its so sad when spills happen. The oil companies need to invest more time and money into preventing spills. I am all for heavy regulations on this.

With all the drilling in Russia, very few reported spills.

Always bad, with worldwide ramifications, but at least this time it's not in our backyard in Alaska or the Gulf of Mexico.

That is approximately 2 acres of land with an 1.5 acres slightly damaged. I hate to see it damaged, but is that really a lot in the grand scheme?

I have never heard of oil being measured by "tons." It is usually by barrel or by gallons.

Anyway, this spill is unfortunate and I hope it can be cleaned up as opposed to covered up.
