US gasoline closer to $2, cheapest since March 2005
Tuesday, November 18, 2008
Forbes -- WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The average U.S. retail price for gasoline is closing in on $2 a gallon after falling another 15 cents over the last week to the lowest level since March 2005, the U.S. Energy Department said on Monday.

The national price for regular unleaded gasoline fell for the ninth week in a row, sinking to $2.07 a gallon, down $1.03 from a year ago, the department's Energy Information Administration said in its weekly survey of service stations.

Seventeen states have gasoline prices that average under $2 a gallon, according to the AAA travel club.

Who would have thought that gas prices would ever dip below $2.00 a gallon this soon after soaring to over $3.50 a gallon just a couple months ago! If OPEC and other oil-producing nations don't decrease their productions quotas, prices shouldn't increase for the foreseeable future. Unless we change the conservation measures we've implemented recently. And then there's the pirates off the African coast. Security measures need to be increased quickly before these acts get out of hand!

The one silver lining that can help us survive, this economic malaise and they want to increase taxes. The insanity of it all. I don't care what they want the money for, we are in a recession and a turnaround will be a long time coming. Government can get in line and wait, like the rest of us poor schmoes.

Hope is that it stabilizes and something is done about the speculators that artificially drive up the price of oil. Maybe now that everyone is so 'tickled' that Obama is president, everything will be wonderful.

198 in charlotte, keep going.... I don't understand why deisel is so much more expensive, it is cheaper to produce and I remember it used to be much cheaper to use, this is directly relevant to our product prices

I see more motorcyclists on the freeways and various golf-cart type vehicles on the surface streets. Keep on conserving and exploring alternative transportation options.

Be careful of what you ask for: yes, we have lower gas prices, due to the crumbling economy. Yes, we have lower real estate prices, due to the crumbling economy. Yes, we have lower food prices, due to the crumbling economy.

It is regularly <$1.99/gal at most locations here in Albuquerque. We have also started filling with a 10% ethanol(E10)blend for the winter months(NOV-FEB),which tends to reduce overall MPG by 1-2MPG.

Sorry to hear about your prices Porchpup. I would think that Nebraska corn crops would help with Ethanol production and translate into lower gas prices for your area.

It's about time these gas prices go down. They are part of the reason the economy is so messed up in the first place. I wish the government would pass an act to put lid on the gas prices, that way we wouldn't be in this situation again. Make the oil companies eat some of their profit like the rest of us have went through our savings.
